This course is essential in developing your workplace health and safety capacity. It has been contextualised to meet the immediate need for workers in a variety of roles to upskill in infection control.

Individuals working in a broad range of industries in our current COVID-19 environment.
Please note this course has assessment requirements that must be completed in a workplace. If you are not able to access a workplace for the practical assessments, you will not be able to successfully complete this unit of competency.
What you will learn:

• enforcing clean and contaminated zones
• limitation of contamination
• surface cleaning for infection control
• identify infection hazards and assess risks
• best practice virus and bacteria infection and control
• where to find reliable and trustworthy information
• practical applications of infection control procedures to various industries
Upon successful completion students will receive a statement of attainment in one of the following Skill Sets -
• HLTSS00064 Infection control Skill Set - suitable to for those working in aged or disability care, health, community services or other areas with direct client care. note: this Skills Set contains the original unit HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
• HLTSS00065 Infection control Skill Set (Retail) - suitable for people working in retail, supermarkets, entertainment (without food), salons, gyms and markets.
• HLTSS00066 Infection control Skill Set (Food Handling) - suitable for people working in food outlets, aged & disability care, education, performance venues and food delivery.
• HLTSS00067 Infection control Skill Set (Transport and Logistics) - suitable for all sizes of businesses, e.g. offices, depots, customer sites, warehouses, distribution centers, courier services and service centers.
Delivery Modes
• Online at your own pace. This takes approximately 4 hours plus workplace assessment.
• Classroom based. Attend our 4 hour in class session and then complete your workplace assessment.
• Workplace. Call us to see how we can deliver this to suit your needs.
What you will need
• workplace, organisation policies and procedures
• access to a workplace supervisor to observe, monitor and assess your performance or ability to video your practical assessments to submit to our trainer.
• for online classes: a computer and internet access to participate in online learning
Entry requirements
You will need to have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) that allow you to read and interpret information and prepare documents at a basic to intermediate level. City East Community College may conduct an LLN assessment as part of the pre enrolment process.

Other information
This is nationally accredited training. You will need:
• a unique student identifier (USI),
• to send us a copy of your photo id, and
• access to a workplace in your nominated industry to complete the practical assessments.
Nominal hours: 25 This is the nationally agreed hours to complete the course for someone with no workplace experience. As this is delivered to people already in the workplace we adapt the information so it can be completed in a much shorter time frame.
